My Story
After over 25 years in education, I've seen the profession from every angle - classroom teacher, middle leader, deputy head teacher, headteacher, mentor, coach and professional development facilitator. I've experienced the incredible highs of education: pupils achieving beyond their expectations, staff growing into confident professionals and the deep satisfaction of making a real difference.
I've also witnessed the devastating lows: brilliant teachers leaving because they felt overwhelmed, talented staff burning out from unsustainable workloads and passionate, capable and committed educators losing their love for the profession that once inspired them.
This doesn't have to be the reality of working in schools.
Why I Started Guide On The Side
During my years as a headteacher, I spent countless hours supporting staff through the challenges of education. The conversations were often the same: "I love teaching, but I can't cope with everything else." "I feel like I'm drowning in paperwork." "I don't know how to switch off."
I realised that while we train teachers to teach, we aren't adequately preparing them for the realities of managing workload, dealing with difficult situations or maintaining their wellbeing in a high-pressure environment.
My Mission
Every educator deserves to have a fulfilling and sustainable career in teaching. You shouldn't have to choose between doing a job you love and protecting your wellbeing.
